Goodbye, old friend

A buddy of mine, named Jim King, passed away this morning. I used to work with him years ago at the local I.G.A. He was hilarious...one of the funniest people to be around. He always had a smile on his face, and always did his best to make others smile.

We used to take our lunches together, and scout-out the deli to see what they would be fixing. I enjoyed talking with him, laughing with him, and being around him. After I left the store, a mutural friend of ours kept me updated as Jim ran into some serious health problems. After years of fighting, the end came for him this morning.

At least now he is at peace. But that doesn't change the hurt and pain that his friends and family are feeling and will be feeling. My heart goes out to them.

He was in Hospice care for a little over a week, and I kept trying to convince myself to go see him, but I didn't. I just couldn't see Jim like that. I'd rather see him as he was...happy and full of life.

I have nothing but fond memories of him, and will always remember the time he invited me into his house, his garage, and we drank pink lemonade. Today, the world lost an angel, and I lost a friend.

May you rest easy.
